TRACKSET WORKBENCH / GUIDE

A code is a clue. Start there.

The check-engine light is the beginning of a diagnosis, not a parts order.

Capture the whole picture

Read stored and pending codes before clearing anything. Save freeze-frame data, mileage and the conditions when the light appeared. Clearing codes can erase useful evidence and reset readiness monitors.

Find the service procedure

Use the exact year, engine and model to find the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedure. A circuit or efficiency code describes what the system observed; it does not prove that the named component needs replacement.

Test before replacing

Inspect connectors, hoses and recent work, then follow the specified tests. Keep a record of your measurements and repairs. Confirm the repair using the manufacturer’s procedure rather than assuming that clearing the light fixed it.
